If you’re planning to become a leader, or you’re already there. You should know that among the essential skills of a great leader are personal skills which include the willingness to learn, problem-solving, decision-making, and of course time management. In this article, you’ll find my top 4 time management skills that helped me a lot in my career, especially when I started my role as team lead to organize my work and my team's work effectively.

1. Eat That Frog Technique 🐸. Start the day with the most challenging task (the “🐸 ”), gradually moving towards the easier ones. by:
  • Define a clear goal,

  • Set a ⌛.

  • Make a list of what you need to do to reach your goal.

  • Prioritize the tasks on this list.

  • The first ones on the list are your “🐸🐸🐸”.

  • Start with the most challenging frog first.

  • Repeat this process every day.

2. Pareto’s Principle, (80/20 Rule)

is a time management method that helps prioritize the most effective tasks for solving problems. It’s based on the fact that 20% of actions are responsible for 80% of outcomes.

3. The Eisenhower Matrix, this method is based on an urgent-important matrix. The tasks should be sorted by: Important, Unimportant, Urgent, and Not urgent. The focus should be only on important and critical tasks🚨. Delegate the rest of the tasks or even recheck the need for their implementation.

4. The Pomodoro Technique this method uses a timer to break down the work into intervals 🍅. By:
  • Formulate a task.

  • Set a ⌛, for example, for 25 minutes.

  • Focus on the task at hand.

  • When the timer finish, take a short break from work.

  • Repeat steps two through five.

After you’ve completed this process four times, you can start taking longer breaks 30 minutes. This method will help you focus and, at the same time, not feel burnout.

When I started my team leader role, my biggest challenges weren't technical, but personal. I had to find a good technique to stop my never-ending daily to-do list and manage my time better by using these 4 techniques and I recommend you try one or two of these techniques out and watch your productivity increase 🚀.
